As a Digital Associate Producer freelancing with Discovery Communications, I was part of “Project Evergreen” under the Social/Digital Strategy team. It was the beginning of the brand's expansion into digital video. Our team's videos were meant to encourage cross promotion within the Discovery family, recycle Discovery’s footage in a fresh and timely way and most importantly, increase Discovery’s overall social presence.
Facebook was the team’s most popular platform and main focus. All of our videos were shared onto the main Discovery page, with over 37 million followers at the time. Most of our videos were also shared on the Animal Planet, Science Channel and Hello World Facebook pages, amongst other third party partners. Most vidoes are still being used to continue the cross promotion and digital content
My specific duties consisted of conceptualizing, pitching and researching topic ideas, screening and selecting footage, stringing clips together in Adobe Premiere, and writing accurate, clear social copy for the videos. I lead a team made up of an associate producer and researcher, an editor and our footage aggregator, and the occasional intern.
When our project was complete, four of the five top most shared and viewed digital videos on the Discovery and Animal Planet pages were ones our team created/I produced. By the end of our project, we had over fifty videos published.
Here are our team's top five best performing videos produced by your’s truly:
1. “Amazing Shark Breaches Caught On Video”
2. “Megalodon: The Greatest Predator to Ever Live”
3. “Red Fox On The Prowl"
4. “Space in 4K”
5. “A Quick Escape”
Our team came in right before one of Discovery's most well known franchises: Shark Week.
